Documenting my journey building the Waldorf 48 with Porter Davis in Gisborne

Um, where did our land go?

Exciting time today... we got a slab!

Let's back it up a little. Yesterday I got a call (not from PD, but from my independent inspector) to inform me that they are ok to proceed with the inspection at 2pm. So I make my way down to meet up with the inspector to see what he thinks of the work. Low and behold the guys are nowhere near ready. That being said, there were only 9 things picked up (which the guys were already seeing to) that got on the report.

During the inspection I get to talking to the concretor who informs me that the pour is booked in for 9:30am the following day (again, no information from PD!).

I also got some interesting stats from the concretor (awesome guy!).

  • My slab took 93m3 of concrete
  • There is 7 tonnes of reo buried deep
  • 29 Piers below the slab will ensure it doesn't move
On a side note, whilst on site today watching concrete pour (not quite the same as it dry) got to meet a few of my neighbours. They all seem really nice and it appears we have managed to move into an area full of kids... great for my 3 boys.
